Exemption rule for CMA (Syllabus 2022):
If a candidate appears in all papers of a group but fails the group overall, and scores 60% or more in any individual paper, that paper is exempt from the next 3 consecutive terms of examination.
During the exemption period:
- The candidate must pass remaining (non-exempted) papers
- Aggregate for the group is calculated on non-exempted papers only
- Marks in exempted papers are reckoned as 50 for aggregate calculation
Important: Exemption benefit is NOT available for Foundation examination.
Exemption applies only for 3 consecutive terms from the term in which exemption was secured.
Carry Forward of Marks rule (CMA Syllabus 2022):
If a candidate scores 60% or more in any paper AND also secures minimum 40% in each remaining paper of the group (but fails to pass the group overall), the candidate gets:
1. Exemption from appearing in that paper in subsequent examination
2. Actual marks obtained in that paper are carried forward (not just 50)
Key conditions:
- The benefit automatically ceases if a candidate voluntarily appears in that exempted paper again
- The benefit applies for 3 consecutive terms of examination from the term exemption was secured
